Our Story
Sandbox grew out of Gather with a simple belief: students should have access to the same kind of technology shaping the world around them.

WHERE IT STARTED
BUILT FOR THE FIELD.
Gather started with a simple idea: build mobile robots that could take on real work in the physical world.
Working alongside farms and other real-world environments taught us that useful robotics has to be adaptable, approachable, and built around the people using it.

THE OPPORTUNITY.
The technology was already there. The question became how to put it in students’ hands.

REAL ROBOTICS.
A NEW WAY TO LEARN.
Sandbox takes the technology, lessons, and real-world experience behind Gather and turns them into a hands-on learning platform built for students.
The goal isn’t to simulate robotics work. It’s to give students the tools to actually do it.
THE ROAD TO SANDBOX.
2023
Summer 2023
Began concepting our robot. Our design principles in that first meet: accessible, human-centric, purpose-built, simple, grounded.
2026
Early 2026
Teachers, administrators, and students approach us about using the robot for the Farm Robotics Competition to develop real-world solutions for farms. We talk to folks across the country - from cities like Brooklyn, NY to deep farm country like Central Valley of CA - who are interested in our platform for applied learning, career + technical education, workforce development and innovation competitions.
2024
First robot prototype public demo on a California raisin field. The robot successfully autonomously does down a row by detecting the vines. Success!
November 2024

What's to Come
Excited to bridge industrial and classroom robotics... officially launching our pilots with founding schools in early 2027! Connect with us if you’d like to be a founding school.
2025
December 2025
A few more robots go into fields in TN and CA. We realize that we might have made quite-possibly the smallest field robot for farms. Pros-compact, lightweight, throw it on the back of a pick-up truck. Cons – while rugged, it won’t go through extra gnarly terrain.
